When will we switch to Digital Television in Australia?

The Australian Government is steadily switching free-to-air Television from analogue to digital – beginning in mid 2010. By the end of 2013, all analogue broadcasts in Australia will be dropped. If you’re not digital TV prepared when this occurs – you will not be in a position to watch free-to-air Television any more. The switchover is being done region-by-region.

What do you need to prepare for Digital Television?

If you have a digital TV, you are probably prepared for digital television now. But if your television is many years of age, it’s probably not equipped for digital television. The simple way to determine this is if you get the new GO! Channel. If you do, you’re most probably already digital ready.

If you do not receive it, there’s two options for you to get you digitally prepared:

1) Purchase a new Television with an integrated digital TV tuner.

2) Keep your existing Television and attach to it a digital set top box or a digital video recorder.

You may also have to upgrade your antenna to receive digital Television channels.
